Carterton’s outdoor swimming pools were officially opened in October 1911 and were built on an existing quarry pit. The main pool around 50 yards by 25 yards, making it the largest outdoor pool in New Zealand at the time.

The current pools include a main pool, a learners pool and the toddlers pool. The variety of pool sizes and depths, and sun shade sails, makes the complex an ideal location for family outings and picnics.

Carterton’s outdoor pool is one of the few pools in New Zealand that still provides free admission.
