Carterton is a small town in the Wairarapa Region of New Zealand, part of Greater Wellington and the seat of the Carterton District.
The town is located 14 kilometres south-west of Masterton and 80 kilometres north-east of Wellington, New Zealand's capital city. The town has an estimated population of approaching 5,000 (June 2014), with the population of the whole district around 8,700.
The town describes itself as the Heart of the Wairarapa and New Zealand's daffodil capital, holding a Daffodil Festival each year on the second Sunday in September.
Carterton district leads the North Island for population growth, with the 2013 census figures from Statistics New Zealand revealing that Carterton grew 16 per cent between 2006 and 2013.
